Climate Change Concept Inventory (CCCI)

Purpose

The CCCI was designed to assess students’ conceptual understanding of climate change science and common misconceptions. CCCI has 21 multiple-choice items (mix of single-response and multiple-response)

  1. Carbon cycle and fossil fuels

  2. Electromagnetic spectrum (visible, UV, IR radiation)

  3. Greenhouse gases and radiation interactions

  4. Proportions of gases in the atmosphere

  5. Feedback mechanisms (positive and negative)

  6. Equilibrium of energy

  7. Conservation of energy

Population

The CCCI is most commonly administered at the high school and undergraduate levels.

Typical Performance

The CCCI is a relatively new instrument and does not have an established performance range.
